Chairman’s message

romseyu13hantschampionsmarch08-036

Welcome to the Romsey Hockey Club website. Hope you like the new look.

The Club began the 2009/2010 season fresh from its merger with the Men from Michelmersh and Timsbury who joined with the Romsey Ladies and Romsey Juniors. The philosophy at the time is best summed up with “let’s do it!” And we have! The club now has a clear path to develop Hockey in the area. We will take the young players at 5 or 6 years of age right thought to their adult hockey career. We have the depth within the club to encourage and develop the young players and create a hugely successful club whilst retaining the small club feel.

On the pitch we must highlight the Ladies 1st XI who only just missed out on promotion to League 1 and give congratulations to both the Men’s teams on their promotion from their leagues at the first attempt. The Juniors too continue to thrive and win, despite some strong opposition in the older age groups. The Juniors are the foundation for the Club’s future and we rightly revel in their success. We recognise their effort and encourage them to be as proud of their achievements as we are of our senior teams.

Off the pitch there has been great energy shown by Committee members and senior players committed to make the merged Club a success. Aside from the day to day admin, a number of people have pursued coaching and umpiring qualifications, we have a revamped website and a centralised Club Fixtures calendar and news blog, and the finances are in good shape. Please give feedback freely on how we are doing and on our new look Website.

Looking ahead there are two key areas that we hope to address in the 2010/2011 season. These are to improved attendance at training, on Thursday night, and raising the Club’s profile even further. As part of this, we are running a new youth Summer Camp and we are working on a proposal, for the AGM on 19th June, to appointment a Director of Coaching. There are many positive benefits with regard to these exciting developments and one which I believe the membership will support fully. We will all have the opportunity to take advantage of our new coach on a Thursday night at training! Would love to see you there.

The 2009/2010 season has been a successful one for Romsey in with many great performances in each of the sections on and off the pitch. The future looks very promising for all.
